According to the University of Guyana's strategic development plan, "The greatest weakness by far is the low financial resources that fund the University's operation... [resulting in] negative effects including: student tuition fees below the economic level." With this financial barrier, currently only 6.1% of Guyanese citizens pursue higher education. SAGE helps overcome this barrier by providing promising students with full scholarships to help fulfill their commitment to Guyana.
Your donations will go directly towards academic scholarships that provide Guyanese students the opportunity to attend University. By helping to support the education of promising young students, you will help to promote development in Guyana.
Total Funding Received to Date: $6,294
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $3,705
Total Funding Goal: $10,000
This project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf).
SAGE Scholars are contracted to work in Guyana for at least two years after graduation. This brings the benefit of their University degree back to their communities and displays the value of an education.
As the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere with a gravely under resourced education system...I believe SAGE fills that critical next step in helping students.
