A Home Within is a national organization that provides mental health services to foster kids across the country. Our premise is simple: "One child, one therapist, for as long as it takes."

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Over a half million foster children across the United States face serious emotional issues as a result of their highly-unstable childhood environment. These kids spend an average of over two years in foster care and during that time will have three different placements.

How will this project solve this problem?

One child. One therapist. As long as it takes. A simple, powerful model that changes lives. A Home Within is the only national nonprofit organization focused on meeting the emotional needs of foster kids. We connect foster youth with long-term volunteer therapists so that they can begin to recover from traumatic childhood experiences. A Home Within recruit, trains and supports a national network of therapists.

Potential Long Term Impact

The symptoms of suffering from chronic loss during a lifetime of instability, and often abuse, significantly interfere with social, emotional and cognitive development. By helping current and former foster youth to overcome many of the significant emotional problems they suffer as a result of having grown up in the foster care system, A Home Within is helping them to become healthy, strong and productive members of their communities.
