The past three months in our secondary school in Honduras have seen great advances in the education of the almost 100 students from 9 different communities, many of whom walk two hours each way just to receive an education. Classes including local geography, art and music have been undertaken, with the results shown off in a local schools get-together.
Our work in the primary school continues well, with the children in first grade really improving their basic reading, writing and counting skills. We plan to start investing more in sustainable income plans in the next couple of months, improving upon our Plan Café and also introducing Plan Pollo (chickens).
Thankyou for all your support in the past present and hopefully the future! cheers
We have launched our Gift For Good, where for a donation of just $35 you will receive a hand-made fabric purse and also feed one child for the rest of the school year, definitely the perfect Gift For Good! Please follow this link or the link at the bottom of this report to make a difference.
Amazing results for the school in San Rafael. In late 2013, the Government ran tests nationally and our school, with averages in the high 80's and 90's beat the average (50s and 60s). And this year is no different with the children showing great progress. Our secondary school continues to cover 6 grades from teenagers from 9 different communities and we have introduced music classes. Thanks to donations, we could print out the exam papers for the whole school for the rest of the year, otherwise they wouldn't have been tested. Father's Day was celebrated with much fun and games and the daily food and fruit program continues.
Such exciting times ahead in San Rafael and we will keep you posted. Please do donate to our Gift For Good appeal and help us feed all the children for the rest of 2014. cheers
The new school year starts in the first week of February and we are ready for the challenges ahead in our secondary school, as well as providing much needed support in the primary and kinder, as well as continuing with and supplementing our daily food and fruit program.
In Honduras we plan to increase the number of local teachers we employ and supplement the food program, as well as providing better and more educational materials that will improve further the level of education we can provide. We want to provide another teacher for kinder school, and another teacher in primary school to help the 2 current teachers who cover 7 grades between them. Our secondary school we plan to increase our teacher numbers to include college education.
Our sustainable plan Café yielded its first successful crop, which in the future will hopefully cover some of our costs in the school.
It is thanks and testimony of your support during these past years, and years to come, that we can continue the projects, getting better each year and providing an education for these communities that had little chance or opportunity.
In 2014, we will be holding three charity challenges in Guatemala as well, so if you fancy heading down, seeing the projects and raising funds by challenging yourself, please see our website on http://www.thephoenixprojects.org/donate-now/challenges/
Thank you for your continued support during 2014!
As 2013 comes to a close we can reflect to a terrific year in Honduras, especially our secondary school as yet more teenagers and adults graduate from Secondary school. Plan Café is ready for harvest and we are beginning to buy supplies for 2014. The primary school finished for the year with brilliant results, laying the foundations for an optimistic 2014.
During this festive season we have to look ahead to 2014 and beyond; get donations in the bank to ensure our programs progress and improve over the coming months; ensure our children have daily food and fruit; ensure we can pay our local teachers who do such a terrific job; make sure that the children have materials to study hard!
May I take this opportunity to thank you for previous donations and thank you in advance for donations to come. As we all share gifts this season, please share our message with friends and family and let’s all ensure a prosperous 2014 in The Phoenix Projects and their communities. Happy holidays!
Two little words that can never be said enough!
Hope you are well. As the year draws to an end we wanted to send you a quick update of our main successes from the past ten months, to take a moment to reflect upon exactly what your support has achieved.
This year, across all of our projects, we accepted more students into the schools and are currently supporting over 1,000 children, handing out over 250,000 pieces of fruit, 35,000 pieces of bread and over 100,000 hot meals to keep them warm, full up and nourished!
We have kept over 50 locals in work with 30 of them teaching the children over 28,000 teaching hours in classrooms that have been built and refurbished. On top of that, 30 of our old students have graduated and are now new teachers, ready to educate the world!
Our vital sustainable plans are going really well; Plan Café in Honduras will have its first crop later this year, Plan Moo continues to support secondary school students in Ecuador and new plans, Plan Arveja in Santa Maria and Plan Papa in Ecuador, have started this year!
We have also had some wonderful volunteers building stoves, teaching, painting and helping out throughout the year. And of course YOU, supporting every one of these children get the start in life they deserve. Thank you.
Not bad huh? We will be in touch next week with some exciting Christmas news, but for now pat yourselves on the back and congratulate yourselves for the support you have given us over the last ten months and remember how important your continuing support is for these wonderful children.
