Riverkids has four centres set amidst the Phnom Penh slums. Each morning, children line up to get their breakfast and then in the afternoon, snacks and fruit.
Our Weekly Boarding kids have three meals a day at our first site, Alexandra. The boarding is a temporary shelter for abused children who reunite with their families after the crisis is over.
Some of the children come to the centre for extra classes, others have to be home to look after a younger sibling, but all these tell us that they are alright. We’re seeing them flourishing with meals and school, so finishing school is not very far away, all because you chose to help.
We see our programs work – last week, a girl spoke up about her mom trying to sell her. She dared to believe that her sharing with our social workers will turn her fate around. This is bravery in the middle of harsh realities.
Two children whom we’ve been supporting to school are going to University. For the very first time in our Cambodian slums, we are seeing our kids making it very far. They’re aiming higher and higher because with your support, they’re beginning to see that their dreams and goals are within their reach.
Thank you very much for supporting Riverkids’ food program.
