Summary

This project will bring the Girls on the Run program to low-income and minority populations in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

This scholarship program targets schools that are comprised of large low-income and minority populations where girls are not only at great risk for health issues and engaging in risky behaviors, but also tend to have limited access to after-school programs and opportunities for organized physical activities.

How will this project solve this problem?

Scholarship funds will support the cost of program delivery at disadvantaged sites. Specifically, funds will be used to purchase curricula and coach materials, to train volunteer coaches and to support the end-of-season running event.

Potential Long Term Impact

Reduce the display of at-risk activities among its participants. Fewer adolescent pregnancies and eating disorders, less depression and suicide attempts, fewer substance/alcohol abuse problems and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.

Project Message

Every girl should grow up with the self respect and the confidence to pursue their dreams. Girls on the Run can get them on the right path at an early age.
