Girls Reconvene to Share Great Updates

The girls working on inner transformation
The girls working on inner transformation

In our last report, in April, Global Grassroots happily reported the launch of three new ventures.  The 18 girls working on these ventures had a follow-up, 2-day workshop which provided them a chance to come together and learn of each others progress while further refining and developing Global Grassroots' unique blend of leadership and entreprenurship skills combined with personal transformation and mindfulness practices.  Global Grassroots' Program Officer, Gyslaine described her enjoyment in hearing what she describes as "amazing" feedback from these girls since they started working in their communities. (As a reminder, the topics of the ventures spearheaded by the girls are: to reduce the number of street children; reduce the number of street girls who do not go to school and; reduce poverty against women and girls through family planning training.)

All eighteen girls shared their inspiring feedback.  Here are just a few direct quotes from the girls that offer a feel of the transformation they recently experienced.  Their words below are kept exactly as spoken, to the greatest extent possible.

"As a leader, I have realized how much I bring value to my society. Before this program, I wasn’t sure if I could stand in front of many people or gather them to teach something that they think I have less experience in. Through the step of Implementation, I could see what community thinks of me and what are their expectations."

"I also learned that I have ability or talent of conviction. I realized this when I have been able to help a street child to change her style life by convincing her to go back home and join school. Before I was afraid that I could not make it happen. I was not aware of my talent before attending and Practice Global Grassroots program."

"I have developed my leadership ability by using conscious program. There was no way I could be able to stand in front of people whom I consider older than them, and train them on something that I was expecting them to know better than I do. I used to think that adult people always have experience so I could not have any thing to share with them or have anything that can inspire them."

"From my experience as a social change leader, I have learned a lot from:

- Feeling and being aware of my challenges instead of avoiding them.

- Using Breath-Body-Mind technique to help to be aware of my environment and myself, in terms of avoiding to create harm to others. I have learned that I am the one to know how to manage the problems because the problems will always be there. I have learned and felt that I am a pillar of social change in my community."

We are so grateful to our sponsors who have either supported or continued to support these girls. Thank you so much.  We could not have imagined sharing a more positive and promising report.
