Project Report for Ghana: Care & Support for 50 HIV positive Children

The Care & Support – Light For Children Ghana Project was boosted when Global Giving donors committed an amount of 425 dollar as project support funding which we received on February 2011.

The funds were used in three major specific areas that are Anti-retroviral medication nutritional supplement and educational support.

Anti-Retroviral Therapy

Since survival of these children depend on the regular supply of the medication, payment to this effect was made at the two main HIV clinics of Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Kumasi South Government Hospital, both in Kumasi. This however enabled the children received their monthly supply of the medicines.

Nutritional Supplement

The nutritional aspect of the children health is as important as the ART and as such the stock of the nutritional supplement was enhanced, when we bought boxes of this blood booster. Every month each of the children was given a pack of this which contains thirty tablets to be taken once a day for thirty days.

Educational Support

In the objectives of Light For Children ensuring that the children are given the opportunity to have access to educational fund are allocated for this.

This funding however has helped to provide the basic educational needs like books and stipends for them to be able to go to school.

The funds however came at a very opportune time since it ensured the continuity of the project.

The care givers and the children themselves were very happy since there was total improvement in the health status as well as ability to continue with their school.

We are excited remarked some of the children and their care givers.
