Summary
At Rachel House we offer respite care to children with life shortening conditions and their family. Every moment is precious for the families who visit and we try to make sure that when they come to stay with us that special, lasting memories are made.
Our Activities Team organise different themes every week and all the children can enjoys games and arts and crafts that are at a level that suits them, where they can enjoy quality time with their parents and siblings.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Rachel House supports 150 children and their families from all over Scotland every year. The children who use Rachel House have life-shortening conditions and visit the hospice for respite care, emergency care, terminal care and the families then use CHAS for bereavement support.
This is a problem that can only be solved with medical advances. CHAS exists to help families make the most of the short time that they have together.
How will this project solve this problem?
Providing one years funding for toys, games and activities at Rachel House will ensure that the Activities Team are fully equiped to provide fun, laughter and quality time, for the families who use our services, therefore creating special and lasting memories which are so important.
Potential Long Term Impact
For many families who use Rachel House, the time that they will have together will be very short. In the long term it is so important for bereaved parents and siblings of a child who has used Rachel House to know that they made the most of the time they had with the child.
Project Message
At Rachel House we are aware that time is very precious for all of the families who stay with us. We ensure that their experience is fun and positive so that they are left with special memories.
