Waves For Water continues to partner with Nike and Hurley to combine water and sport. The goal is to bring people together and improve lives by giving clean water to those who don't have access...and new sporting equipment where there isn't any. As you may remember, we tested the concept in post-disaster Haiti to great results. So, we thought we would try the concept elsewhere in another type of crisis - India.
Jharkhand, India is an area notorious for sex trafficking and general exploitation and oppression of its young female population. It is also a place where much of the water is contaminated. Three years ago, a solo soccer coach from the USA started a local, community-based organization (YUWA) in rural Jharkhand to give its young people a chance at something else. And what started with pocket money and 15 barefoot girls who had never kicked a ball, is now a community of over 200 confident girls playing with skill. But still with no access to clean water. We went to Change the Game.
It took planes, trains, automobiles and motorcycles to get there and we did. We delivered 25 GameChanger Buckets and spent a week at the camp witnessing firsthand the transformation of children from five surrounding villages. We got to see orange Nike soccer balls bouncing around the field as clean water flowed on the sidelines. It means so much that we are able to play a role in keeping these young athletes healthy and on the pitch...smiling...finding a better life. Thank you for your support of the GameChanger Project and for making change possible.
Your support really helps. We are not a huge non-profit which allows us to move quickly and because of that, we also know where the funds go. We see the direct results. We see the smiles. We see the potential. Your support is a GameChanger for many people in need. Thanks for each and everyone of you. We cannot do what we do without your involvement. Please continue to donate and tell your friends.
