Thank you for all your support!

Thanks to the support of 19 donors through GlobalGiving and the support of Operation Canasta, Fundación Leer can confirm that the “Open Book Project” Program has been successfully concluded!

The possibility of having new and varied reading material according to the interests and needs of the children stood out. Thanks to the implementation of the program, the children have now access to the Reading Corner in their school and enjoy varied proposals through motivating activities.

Also, we would like to share with all our supporters that the whole program has been very positive and successful due to the impact of all the actors in the educational community, increasing commitment to the proposal in a gradual manner.

The teachers and the director stated that it constituted to the institutional work, seeing as it allowed the implementation of new strategies to promote reading. Moreover, through the implementation of the program they have learned new ways to approach literature with the children and their families. They recognized it especially made an important contribution to the families.

Thus, Fundacion Leer would like to thank you for your donation on behalf of the whole school community of Chaco.

Thank you again for believing in our project!

Best regards,

The Fundación Leer Team

The Reading Corner was inaugurated!

Reading Corner
Reading Corner

The Training Day Event took place on the 20th September at the school. At that time, they already had the books for the Reading Corner, the program manual, and the telephone contact with Fundación Leer specialists who have given them advice for undertaking the project.

The training event covered the following contents: Open Book Program methodology, children book selection criteria, how to promote reading in children, how to profit from the Reading Corner to get children interested in books, how to get families involved in children’s reading skills’ development.

The space chosen for the Reading Corner was a classroom with  some computers installed. They decorated the classroom  during October with the help of children and their families. Every family made a cushion and teachers made "book wallets" to put new books in.

The Reading Corner was inaugurated on the 4th November 2011. Many activities took place at the Opening Event: dramatization of stories by children, a symbolic ribbon cutting, a free tour, reading at the Reading Corner and an evening tea together.

Action to be undertaken: to establish a Reading Corner timetable, to implement various reading motivator activities there through phone and e-mail advice and follow up by  Fundación Leer.

Arrival of some of the books!

Dear donors,

Thanks to donations received so far plus the financial help of an international foundation that donated to this project, some of the 300 new books to equip a children´s library have been sent to the school!

The Director of the school got in touch with us: she was moved that so many people have mobilised resources to help this isolated school at Quitilipi and all the children that make a huge effort to go to classes.

We are still looking for donors to help us fully fund this project and build for the very first time a colourful and vibrant Reading Corner where children will discover the joy of reading while learning to read and write.

Please help us by posting the project in facebook, via twitter or telling your friends and family.

Many, many thanks!

The team at Fundacion Leer
