THE CONSTRUCTION OF REFUGEE SCHOOL IN KAMPALA IS NOW BECOMING CERTAIN

THE POSSIBILITY FOR REFUGEE PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KAMPALA IS BECOMING CERTAIN

On behalf of the Refugees that we care for we would like to thank the organization Finnish Refugee Council and the two donors for their wonderful contribution made to this cause.  Every contribution made to this cause makes it possible to achieve the mission that we have set for ourselves. We seek to improve the lives of refugees who have already suffered so much!  Please check out our site to see for your self what we have achieved together with volunteers and aid from different parts of the Globe.  We are only a refugee based small organization, but we are here with a passion greater then most.

As we have said it once again this project seeks to construction a primary school for refugee children and other vulnerable children in Kampala Uganda. The UNHCR estimates a total number of 35, 000 recognized refugees in Kampala and the majority of these refugees are children. The only practice around to ensure their protection is the assumption that they have to benefit from the existing services available to nationals in the hosting communities. But the services such as the government schools, government hospitals lack the capacity, the expertise and experience in refugee issues. Beyond that numbers of refugees are victims of discrimination and xenophobia tendencies.

As may refugee children have no chance to go to school, have no where to sleep, have nothing to eat and cannot get medical treatment PPDR believed that the best way to protect them is to keep them in the walls of schools.

During this Global Giving fundraising campaign we have managed to raised 600$ USA and 30 iron sheets which will help us to move forward towards the construction of a school which will solve many problems above mentioned of refugee children.

Today on 18th April, 2012 we have received 30 iron sheets from the Finnish Refugee Council through their offices in Kampala.

What can these iron sheets do? They will cover up a big part of the roofing of the two existing classrooms but we still need 10 -15 more to cover up the whole roofing of the two classes. These two classes will soon be turned into formal classes after partnership with other schools especially for missionaries.

We have so far raised 600$ USA, what can this money do?

With this money we shall buy cement and put it down on the floor and construct a small space a side where some children who have no where stay will be sleeping at night. In stead of paying for two months rent for a house for these children and then, they will be chassed out after the two months, we rather build a small house connected to the classes where they will stay for long.

What do we have now: Now we are sure that we have a two class rooms build in timbers which will now which will continue working in informal way. We shall make it formal when it is now four classes which will be primary 1,2,3,4.

Our goal for this Global Giving fundraising campaign in this April 2012 is to raise money which will help us to build four class rooms. If we manage to build four class rooms then automatically we shall have these children in 6 classes. Four classes will be studying from 7:30 am – 12 pm this will be primary 1, 2, 3, 4 then they go back home and then primary 5, 6 and secondary 1,2 will be studying in the after noon from 12:30 – 5:30 pm.  For this to happen we still need our donors to make raise 4,000$ towards our project by the end of this month.

In this plan we still need your kind donations before the end of this fundraising on 30th April, 2012.

In this regard we would like to extend our thanks to all our friends who are helping us to circulate this project to all their friends on different social media. Remember that when you share this link to all your friends, you help us to succeed.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO SETUP A 7CLASSES PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR REFUGEE CHILDREN IN KAMPALA

As I have said it in our different report, this project started in 2009 and aims at offering the access to basic needs to refugee children in Kampala who are abandoned to themselves and having no one to look after them. The Ugandan society believes that that it cannot take care of refugees while a large number of Ugandans have no help. Both the Uganda government and the UNHCR accuse each for not doing enough to address the problems of refugee children.

This project is part of a long plan project of a school which will accommodate refugee children in Kampala and other vulnerable children in the hosting communities as we believe at PPDR that the real solution and the best projection of these children in to keep them in the walls of a school.

Through Global Giving we have managed to set up this two class room’s center where numbers of refugees come for different activities from morning up to evening such child care education, English for Adults, Functional Adults Literacy program, Youth Drama Group, French and Kiswahili lessons, HIV/AIDS information sessions, civic education information sessions, the church and many meetings both for refugees and people in the local hosting communities.

We want first all to cover up the rooting of the class because when it rains all activities are stopped and resume the next day because of rain.

We need to reach 4,000$ USA for this fundraising period which ends on 30th April 2012 so that this project can qualify and there after receive more funds after this months through the help of Global Giving. We encourage all our donors to contribute as soon as possible so that we can qualify this project.

The money you have so far contributed can buy only 10 iron sheets and pay for the workers who are to put them on top.

If we manage to get this 4,000 that will be great work and then we shall be in a position of setting two (2) formal classes which will be primary one and two in June this year 2012. If we fail to get this money, we shall only buy the iron sheets and wait for the next fundraising campaign. However if we succeed in this fundraising, the nest fundraising campaign we shall focus on how to set up four formal classes for these refugee children and that will be primary, one, two, tree and four in September this year 2012 and then if all go well by the end of this year during our December fundraising we can be in position of officially opening a complete 7 classes primary school for refugee children in Kampala.

We greatly thank all people of good who have contributed to this since December 2010 when we started the fundraising campaigns on Global through internet. Because of you we are now what we are today and it is because of your support that this project is still running. Thank you so much.
