Sustainability for 2015 and onwards

Help us avoid empty classrooms
Help us avoid empty classrooms

This holiday season we would like to try and raise funds for our sustainable plan initiatives which help the families and the projects by generating income – please see the link at the bottom of the page to find out more on our sustainable plans. By donating now we can start plans to sustain the children’s education, daily food and fruit, local teachers, school materials and much more, well into the future. Please help us avoid empty fruits baskets, broken pencils and deserted classrooms by donating and sharing this month, as you have donated before, and help us sustain their future for years to come.

Happy Holidays

cheers

Introducing The 2014 Appeal - sustainability

Plan Moo
Plan Moo

This year we would like your one-off generous Appeal donation to work now and sustainably in the future, providing daily food and fruit, local teachers’ salaries and materials for the children as well as extra local family income for years to come, hence we will be investing in sustainable income plans with this year’s Appeal!.

To put it simply, every dollar you give to this year’s appeal will keep working now and for years to come, with the immediate income derived from the sustainable plans being shared between the families and the projects. You can get together with friends, family or work colleagues and basically build your own sustainable plan knowing that over the coming years it will be providing for the projects!

Thank you and together we can go a long way to making the projects sustainable with this Appeal by donating here – cheers

Sustainable plans in action to help our families

The kids enjoying Day of the Child
The kids enjoying Day of the Child

School continues at pace and we will soon be introducing after school reinforcement classes as well as sustainable plan workshops which will enable the older children and their families to learn new trades which they can then take on and create their own businesses.

At the same time, we are planning to employ ex-students to come back in the afternoons to help out the children with their homework in exchange for us helping to cover some of their University costs.

To celebrate Day of the Child/Student we took the kids to a local pool where they had a great time, splashing around acompanied by some food. Bearing in mind they live in the desert and rarely get to go to these pools, it was a fantastic day out for them.

Over the coming months we will also be investing in our income generating sustainable plans which should provide income for the schools as well as the local families. These include buying cows, chickens, weaving looms and micro-investment into local start-up businesses. By investing now we create employment for the future: education now, employment and income in the future. For more information on our sustainable plans, please follow this link and get involved!

Finally, let’s not forget what The Phoenix Projects are all for in Latin America: 40 local teachers, the majority of whom were previous students, teaching almost 1000 children daily whilst receiving food across five countries benefiting seven communities (fifteen if you include the communities our students come from in Honduras for our colegio)...all for under $200,000 a year - every penny and cent counts - thank you to everyone who makes this possible year after year.

Sustainable plans to ensure the future

Vegetable gardens in Maldonado
Vegetable gardens in Maldonado

A brilliant past three months in Maldonado, celebrating Mother's Day, the Anniversary and starting work on sustainable plans to ensure the future of the school. Ediluz, our local teacher tells me the children are learning fast and improving their basic reading and writing and mathematics.

In the past month the children have been working on sustainable vegetable gardens to provide produce for the daily food plans, which enables us to invest more money into more sustainable plans which in the future will hopefully cover the costs of the school itself.

The community feel in Maldonado is buzzing at the moment, with so much happening and the future is looking brighter than last year, thanks to you and your support: together we can do great things for the population of Sachaca!

Gift For Good - feed a child for the rest of 2014

Hand-made fabric purse - Gift For Good appeal
Hand-made fabric purse - Gift For Good appeal

We have launched our Gift For Good, where for a donation of just $35 you will receive a hand-made fabric purse and also feed one child for the rest of the school year, definitely the perfect Gift For Good! Please follow this link or the link at the bottom of this report to make a difference.

It has been a very productive first month of the school year in Maldonado with our paid-teacher Ediluz working well with three grades, without her the school would be a very difficult place to learn! We aim to start sustainable-income Plan Cuy (guinea pigs) in the houses of our children in the school, to benefit both them and our running costs in Maldonado. The sales of the guinea pigs, which reproduce very quickly, will not only provide a very useful income for the families though will also cover costs in the school, moving further towards sustainability.

Many things to look forward to in the next few months, including the anniversary and Mother´s Day. Please help us feed the kids fof the rest of the school year by donating towards our Gift For Good appeal. cheers
