Here at Phoenix we love educating children, and we love it when more and more children want to be educated!
Thanks to initial and continuing donations, we opened and run our secondary school and college in 2008 in Honduras because the children in San Rafael, the village where we work, had to walk for at least an hour, if not more, up and down mountains in high temperatures just to get to the nearest high school and college in Copan. With costs and the long journeys for many children, it just wasn't possible.
When we opened our secondary school and college, we invited children from San Rafael to join and as we started to work in Barbasco, we also invited those children to come as well. As it grew and the children started to talk about it and their amazing results, word started to spread and other children wanted to join our school. We won't turn a child away if we can help so we happily accepted more and more children into the secondary school and college.
As the school gates reopened this year, we have 69 students attending the school coming in from nine rural communities around San Rafael including Barbasco, La Pintada, San Isidro, Boca del Monte, El Bonete, Miramar and Pueblo Viejo. What is more exciting is that children attending schools and colleges an hour away in Copan now trek up the mountains to come to our school!
The results speak for themselves, we have an incredibly strong team of teachers teaching 16 subjects and we have dedicated students working hard everyday. Imagine if all the children in your town, and the eight surrounding towns came in to go to one school, it would never happen huh, but here, good education is valued by all and they will walk for a long time to find it!
Thank you for making this possible.
