Brazil Update

This has been an exciting year for Smile Train Brazil! We have began five new Smile Train partnerships since August of 2009. Our partners are located all over the country including in Goiás, Pará, Tocantins and Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre and Caxias do Sul) In August 2009,Smile Train Vice President DeLois Greenwood and Program Manager Jill Woodcome visited partner hospital, Instituto Materno Infantil Prof Fernando Figueira (located in Boa Vista, Recife) and patient homes. The 11th International Congress on Cleft Lip and Palate, an extensive training conference, was held in Fortaleza, Brazil from September 10-13, 2009. Smile Train was the main sponsor of the event which was attended by more than 300 partner representatives from 31 countries in all of the 90+ sessions over the 3 day period. 32 Smile Train attendees were honored as esteemed faculty members. 5 Smile Train Medical Advisory Board members were present and extremely active: Dr. Chen, Dr. Cutting, Dr. Lilja, Dr. Sommerlad, and Dr. Wolfe.
