Transition Letter

Dear Friends,

Your generous support has provided food, shelter, clothing, medical care and, most importantly, a quality education for the 33 children and youth at The Cambodian Children's House of Peace.  It is thanks to Friends like you that the founding and development of this project was made possible.

The Friends of the Children of Cambodia has raised over $150,000 since 2007, and can be very proud of its success in making a difference in the lives of these children and their families. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and faithful giving!

And now . . . transition.  After four years of developing the project at CCHP, the Khmer staff is ready to assume full operational responsibility for day-to-day management. Therefore, I have retired as Advisor and returned to the United States to take care of my health and re-connect with my children and grandchildren.

I have also resigned as Executive Director of The Friends of the Children of Cambodia, in favor of full retirement.  The charity is in the process of closing its books once all donated funds have been received and transferred to CCHP.

The FOCC donor list will be transitioned to CCHP in the coming weeks, so expect to hear from them in the near future.

I want to tell you how grateful I am for your kindness and generosity in support of these worthy children, who will continue to thrive with the support of Friends like you!

Sincerely,

David J. Biviano

Your Gifts Have Arrived!

Dear Friends of the Children of Cambodia and The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace!

We celebrate the holiday season with you around the world, the celebrations of Light as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and other traditions as well.  Your generosity brings light and food to our children and staff every day!

This month, we received $4,768.75 from the Matching Fund Drive in October!  These funds have been deposited into a reserve account, and will support our $1600/month food budget for three months!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

In addition, 31 new donations have been made in the past month, many of them as gift cards and many from web searches, adding another $855 to our account for more food security!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

I look out at the children when we sit down to eat and marvel at how much they have grown, how healthy they are, how happy and thriving they have become!  I remember how small for their age, how malnourished and ill they were when the came here during the past two years.  I am able to smile every day because of the effects of your generosity for these children – this is truly an effective way to share your resources to help children less fortunate around the world!

I have attached some photos to show you the children at lunch, and the way we pray a thanksgiving for all of you every time we sit down to eat!

We send greetings for Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!  And always, we send our gratitude for being Friends of the Children of Santepheap!

Thank you for your Support!

First Day 11/16/08
First Day 11/16/08

Dear Friends of the Children of Cambodia - All!

On behalf of the children and staff of Santepheap, we wish to thank you for your kind and generous support during the just-concluded Matching Fund Drive.

With the help of 50 Friends, we raised $3,650, earning $1,066 in matching funds (FREE MONEY!) for a total of $4,846!

This new funding will provide rice and food for the children for three months, beginning in December - this is FOOD SECURITY for hungry kids.

Every time we sit down to eat, we ring a bell, take three breaths to be mindful and grateful for the food we have before us, and we chant a thanksgiving to our Friends around the world that make it possible.

DONOR FATIGUE?! I think we have all had a touch, if not a large dose, of donor fatugue.  So many messages and reminders and appeals.  When I go to the market here in Siem Reap, the poor and the old and the mother's with babies are constantly tugging at my sleeve, begging for money.  Sometimes, I feel annoyed, irritated.  I finally put "change" into my pocket to give each one with a bow and "Namaste!'  But it still gets annoying!

And then I remember - I'M A BEGGAR, TOO!

Thanks for your patience and long-suffering.  I wish there was another, easier way, to support the project right now.  But we are just a month shy of our 2nd anniversary, still a "start-up."  Now, I will spend the 3rd year seeking grants and corporate and foundation support as well.

Thank you for being our "venture capital!"  It has accomplished amazing results in just 2 years - as you can see in this comparison of photos from the first day to a recent group photo.  These kids look so good and healthy because of the food you have been providing them here in this Project campaign!

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!

Restock the "Food Security" Pantry!

Dear Friends,

As we recently reported, the Food Security Fund provided rice and gresh market food for our 31 children for the past 5 months.

That fund is now depleted, and we need your help re-stocking the "pantry!"

Global Giving is providing another wonderful opportunity for all of us to share our wealth with the poor children of Cambodia - a Matching Fund capmaign that provides 30% - 40% - or 50% matches, depending on the size of the donation.

Will you help us on Tuesday, October 12th?  Please mark your calenders and set your alarms for 12:00 a.m. EDT in the U.S.  First come, first serve for $100,000 in matching funds.

Go to http://goto.gg/5041 to donate on 10/12!

Thank you for all you do to make Santepheap possible!

Food Security for Cambodian Children

As of October 1, 2010, we have received $8,175.00 in donations, just $1825 short of our goal.  We have used all of these funds to provide for the children for the past 5 months.

Your donations have provided rice and fresh market food for the 30 children for five months – a very special support of the basic needs of the children.  They come from the rural villages, where getting enough to eat is a daily challenge.  Now they are secure with three meals a day, all the rice they can eat (like 2-3 plates a meal!) and healthy vegetables and meat and fish.

We recently reduced our meat consumption by 50% by restricting the two offerings at each meal to one vegetable dish with meat, one vegetarian, rather than both with meat.  This is in the interest of good health and sustainable living on the planet, and the children have adjusted without any problems – very strong and healthy, thanks to the excellent cooks who care for them.

Our monthly budget expense for rice and food is $1500.00  Your continuing donations today will help us reach our goal and fund the next month.

Thank you to all those who have supported this project fund – you make the project possible, feed the kids, and get them ready for attending school!

On their behalf, and on behalf of the Board of the Friends of the Children of Cambodia, as well as the dedicated staff that cares for them – THANK YOU!!!
