What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In early June 2014, flash floods caused damage to McDowell County, West Virginia where Children Incorporated supports sponsor children and their families. Water damages cars, houses, and road ways, leaving families in need of cleaning supplies, food, and assistance with repairing their homes. Immediate assistance is needed so families can repair damage before it is permanent.
How will this project solve this problem?
Donating to the Flood Relief in McDowell County, West Virginia project will help families who are in need of emergency disaster assistance immediately. Families that already struggle are having to focus on repairing damages done to their homes and are in need of relief aid. Children attending summer school in the area are also in need of food.
Potential Long Term Impact
Helping families in need with disaster relief now helps with issues that could arise in the future if they are not able to repair their homes quickly. Many families already living in poverty are in need of immediate assistance in order to avoid further damage to their property, worsening their situation.
