This Project is meant to furnish a Library with resources in Little Rock ECD Center in Kibera Kenya. The goal is to add resources in the library and increase the ratio of books to child from 1:3 to 1:1. Resources available in the library currently are limited, from books to furniture to administration staff. The goal of this project is to create an environment in the school library that can provide and enable the children with resources that will help them expand their knowledge base.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
We have a total number of 250 pupils coming into the centre every day distributed from class 1 to class 8. Sharing might be termed by many as caring however at school it is the opposite. Children have to contend with sharing books because of the shortage being experienced at the school. The ratio of children to books is 1:3 i.e. 1 book for every 3 pupils. We are looking to raise funds to help furnish our Library with books and other relevant course materials to help improve the situation.
How will this project solve this problem?
If we manage to get the resources required we will be able to help the children in improving their reading culture and also provide them will a place they can go to after class. The library will also give the children opportunities to improve their creativity through puzzle books, coloring books among others. Children will have more time to do research as previously they were sharing books and thus could only use the books for a specified time.
Potential Long Term Impact
The two long time effects of the project will be that the center will provide 250 children with an option of using the library as an after school activity. This means the children can come do their homework in the library instead of having to go home where they may be required to work. The Project will also solve the problem of sharing which has meant one book is shared among 3 children. The project will help the weak students to put in extra work as they will now have their own books.
This project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations.
