Summary
BRAC will recruit & train 30 women community health promoters to provide essential health care and control & prevention methods for malaria, TB & HIV/AIDS for 30,000 of the poorest people in S. Sudan.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The health status of people in S. Sudan is among the worst in the world. BRAC will address the severe shortage of skilled health workers by mobilizing 30 community health promoters (CHP). Each CHP will ensure that 1,000 of the poorest individuals have access to health services & medicines. The CHP will educate mothers to act on critical health matters such as child health, family planning, water and sanitation, pregnancy, and life-threatening infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB.
How will this project solve this problem?
1) 30 CHPs selected from local BRAC microfinance village organizations 2) CHPs trained to treat common illnesses & control malaria, TB & HIV/AIDS 3) Each CHP will visit 12 households/day & care for a total of 1000 people 4) CHPs monitored & evaluated
Potential Long Term Impact
Communities served by CHPs will have access to basic health care & knowledge to control & prevent the 3 deadliest diseases (malaria, TB & HIV/AIDS) that will empower them to live healthier lives. Overtime the health status in S. Sudan will rise.
Project Message
We can dramatically improve the lives of women & children in S. Sudan by providing them with essential health care and the power of knowledge to help identify & prevent deadly but treatable diseases.
