Summary
Provide emergency food, medical supplies and potable water to those most at need in Zimbabwe. Girl Child Network (GCN) will dispense the supplies.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The emergency relief will directly provide for girls’ basic needs and by buying food, medical supplies and water purification tablets. To summarize GCN staff: The situation is really bad as hunger and thirst grips the communities. For our girls I am really traumatized. It’s true there is no water and you can image the chaos. Cholera has set in. Most of the girls are going hungry for days before they get a meal of leaves and grass. Mealie-meal is expensive and only available in US$.
How will this project solve this problem?
Meet basic food needs and buy mealie-meal (cornmeal), morvite (instant) porridge, cooking oil, peanut butter, sugar, salt, and flour. Buy drugs to help prevent the spread of disease and also buy need anti-retroviral drugs for girls who need them.
Potential Long Term Impact
GCN has always worked to support girls’ education and empowerment as they see this is the most effective tool to eradicate poverty. By providing the girls with basic food and water they seek to help girls at a time of great need.
Project Message
I have never seen such suffering.
