CVI will double the Punena Health Centre's hours of service to a group of northern Ugandan communities by constructing a secure compound with housing so staff can live safely at the health centre.
For over 23 years, there had not been health care in this remote region of northern Uganda due to ongoing rebel activity. In response, CVI opened the Punena Health Centre in 2007. In just over 2 years, our staff of 9 Ugandan health workers have triaged over 30,000 patients, providing primary and emergency health care services! However, because of the lack of security at the centre, our staff will not live there. As a result, we cannot provide people with critically needed night and weekend care.
By constructing a secure compound and additional staff housing, our health workers will live at the health centre. The health centre will be open longer hours and provide emergency coverage after hours (nights, weekends, and holidays).
With extended hours and emergency coverage, the Punena Health Centre will effectively double the hours they are currently open, ensuring more patients get care, service, and health education when they need it.
