Thank you for continuing to help us in our mission to propose improvements for education in Chile.
Different milestones marked the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, including a quick campaign against the arbitrary closure of public schools and the gathering of 5,000 signatures supporting the urgency of prioritizing vocational education in Chile.
The quick campaign started on 7 and 8 January when we wrote and called to adhere to the "open letter to the Minister of Education", where we exposed the unexplained closure of public schools in different areas of the country, calling for these actions to stop. In two days we gathered the signatures of more than 1,500 people, adding some representatives, institutions and academics. We ended the campaign with the delivery of the letter to the Ministry of Education together with the presidents of the most important federations of students in Chile.
Our second news had a longer history. We launched the "Technical Education ¡Now!" campaign in October, which aimed to highlight the importance of vocational education in Chile. We set the goal to gather 5,000 signatures supporting their urgency. In addition we organized the seminar "Towards a new Chile Technical Education" and we launched www.educaciontecnicaahora.cl, where we currently have 5,175 signatures. We reached our goal and we are now preparing the delivery of all the signatures in March to the new President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet.
We started 2014 with these two big hits… on February some of our staff will be going in vacation, but don’t despair, some of us will hold the fort and we will come back with full force in March ;) Best regards!
:) ¡Saludos cordiales!
The last few months we have focused on the campaign "Vocational Education Now! " This initiative seeks to relieve the mission and importance of vocational education in our country. In the context of this campaign we have organized several activities, among which we can mention the "Towards a new Vocational Education in Chile " seminar (you can see the photos on our facebook page http://ow.ly/qDejg) where we heard the views about vocational education of the Minister of Education, the chairmen of the Senate’s education committee, the president of the Teachers’ Union, the president of the Confederation of Workers, and the Vice President of the Council of Rectors.
Two days after the seminar we launched http://www.educaciontecnicaahora.cl, a website that allows you to review the positions of the presidential candidates about vocational education, its history in Chile and documents of interest. In this website you can also sign a petition to call on the authorities to take care of the issue. So far we have over 3,500 signatures, and we are confident that we will meet the goal of 5,000 signers we set.
Soon we will have a video of the seminar’s highlights and also a viral video with testimonials from different people who studied in Technical Education. All this has been accompanied by interviews on television, radio and newspapers, which allowed us to position ourselves as a reference on the subject.
Thank you very much for being there, we invite you to visit www.educacion2020.cl and learn about everything that is happening in education in Chile.
The Educación 2020 Staff
Thank you for continuing to support us in our mission of changing and improving Chilean education. In the past few months we have had great landmarks and definitions.
The first (and most important) was the presentation of our Roadmap (2013-2020): “The Educational Reform that Chile needs”, that presents proposals and goals in subjects ranging from preschool, school, higher and adult education. You can check our full roadmap in http://www.educacion2020.cl/sites/default/files/hdr.pdf
Another highlight was the presentation of the documentary "Trabajo pa’ la casa" which tells the story of 4 working children studying in public schools in Chile. Here we show how principals and teachers can encourage these teenagers to finish their education and prevent them from dropping out of school. You can see it in http://trabajopalacasa.cl/pelicula/
In our search to make simple and relevant information available to the public, we created the space "Education made easy", where we include infographics and summaries of education in Chile. For instance, you can access a full presentation of higher education in Chile in http://ow.ly/nVGYd. Finally, we held a grassroots advocacy campaign called "10 questions on education for presidential candidates", where we encouraged citizens to ask the presidential candidates about their education proposals. You can see their answers in http://ow.ly/nVHv9
Best regards and thank you very much for giving us your support
Thanks to your contribution, this year 2013 we will continue to work harder than ever for the Chilean education. The urgency of executing definitive changes in our educational system is rising by the day. So in the coming months, we will present our 2014-2020 Chilean Education Roadmap to all education stakeholders, with proposals to improve quality, equity and inclusion in early childhood education, school and higher education.
The five principles that guide our daily work and that will drive our Roadmap are:
1) Coverage: with emphasis on early childhood education and preventing school dropout.
2) Quality: Beyond Simce and PSU, we pursue a comprehensive education that delivers real opportunities.
3) Fairness: We want all children and young people of Chile to have access to quality education, at all levels.
4) Inclusion: integration is an ethical issue, but it is also essential to have a real quality education.
5) Public Education: It must be a project of the nation. Our emphasis will be on strengthening public school education and technical training.
Each of these principles and goals will be reflected in the 2014-2020 Chilean Education Roadmap that will be launched and shared with you soon.
Best regards and thank you very much for giving us your support,
