Summary
In Vietnam, Room to Read works with schools in foreign language instruction. We establish language labs where students can access audio and video lessons. The labs supplement language classes.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Vietnam, a background in foreign languages is a key to opportunity. The English language in particular opens doors for employment. Mastery of English provides disadvantaged children a strong edge in today's competitive marketplace. Although the government encourages foreign language instruction in schools, the quality of instruction varies throughout the country. In poor areas, few teachers have ever interacted with native speakers. The Language Labs benefit hundreds of children each year.
How will this project solve this problem?
Each language lab is equipped with 40 interactive labs. A main control unit houses the power supply unit, cabling, television & a computer. This project will support equipment & technology, empowering students to make language central to education.
Potential Long Term Impact
The goal of the project is to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children to learn English. From the moment of installation, the language lab becomes a central fixture in each school.
Project Message
Room to Read's language labs supplement language instruction in schools and provide students with practical experience learning English.
