We’re happy to announce that 135 of our students are now seated in new desks! We couldn’t have done it without you!
The forty-five three-seater desks have arrived and are now in use. The children are very happy to have space to sit and work without being pinched or getting splinters, as was the case with the old desks. This will help them pay attention in class, without the distractions of jostling for space on a crowded bench.
Craftsmen in the local community built these beautiful desks, and the project benefits the local economy right where the children live. We also want to give a shout out to friends from Grace Community Church in Centennial, Colorado. They helped with the final desk assembly at the school last week.
We're so thankfull for YOU and the help you've provided to make this school a place where children can come and feel like they are special. It makes such a difference for them when you invest in their lives!
Thanks to you, forty-five new desks are scheduled for delivery to Calvary Primary School in just a few days! Each desk seats three students, so that’s 135 children who will be seated at these new desks. The rest of the school benefits too, as all the children get more space to sit in class.
We had planned for the desks to be in place before the new school term began in February, but we needed to wait for the wood used for desk tops and seats to cure. The desk frames are metal construction, and are expected to last many years.
Construction is being completed entirely within the community, and the project benefits the local economy right where the children live.
GlobalGiving is having a Bonus Day on March 13th! Donations of up to $1,000 to either of our projects will be matched at 30% while matching funds remain:

THANK YOU! We’ll send another update as soon as we have the desks in place!
Merry Christmas! We hope this finds you in good health and good spirits! We’re looking forward to 2013, and one reason we’re so excited is because you are helping to improve the learning environment for our students. We received funding for the first phase of our project to replace the old, broken desks at Calvary Primary School in Kampala, Uganda. A local business in our community is building the desks for us. The $4,500 we’ve received so far will provide desks for over 180 students, and storage for classroom supplies. These items will be in place before the next term begins in February. This first batch of desks will relieve the overcrowding that we had this year. We had enough space in the classrooms, but not enough seats!
It’s so good for the children see the school environment improving. It shows that you believe in them - that there is someone cheering them on. Your support helps them to make that extra effort and strive for their best!
I also want to let you know about two great opportunities to continue making a difference in these children's lives:
We'll be filled to capacity next year with 500 students - and thanks to YOU, they'll have a place to sit!
As always, we thank you and value your support.
The third term of school is in full swing. You can see from the pictures that we have been repairing some of our old desks. Thanks to you, we know that next term will find us seated properly. The $4,356 raised so far through GlobalGiving will arrive during holiday, and new desks will be waiting for us in the first term of a new school year! For this we are thankful, first to God, and also to you our donors and helpers in this work. You have also helped us reach a major milestone in caring for more children. To stay on GlobalGiving and access the benefits it brings, we need to raise $4,000 from 50 unique donors during the month of September. Thanks to you, we have passed the $4,000 mark and now only need 13 more donors to reach 50! To provide all the desks and furniture to fully equip the school, we will need to raise just over $20,000. We hope to raise half of that through GlobalGiving, with the rest coming from grants - and we are well on our way! We plan to use a similar strategy to fund future projects as we increase the capacity to serve children and families in Uganda. Thank you for making this possible!
