Select women leaders in Juba,Shebelle & Mogadishu will enhance their peace leadership and advocacy skills to effectively engage in conflict resolution that has been elusive in Somalia since 1991.
Since 1991 when Somalia became a failed state, over 5 million people mostly women & children have lost their lives & over 4million live as refugees abroad while many continue to experience violations of their rights with no one to speak for them.Most women leaders lack skills in leadership,peace building & advocacy to enable them effectively contribute to the conflict resolution efforts.Somali women leaders need empowerment to enable them influence decisions that will foster peace in Somali.
Skills attained through the trainings,mentorship & exchange visits will assist the women leaders articulate issues & effectively advocate for peace & respect of women rights.They will be the voice of the silent majority yearning for a peaceful Somali
The project will empower 50 women leaders who will engage with the state & other actors to pursue conflict resolution & respect for women rights in Somalia. The project will result in increased participation of women in leadership roles.
