Most of the men and women of this area are working in saltpans as daily wages labourers. They usually start their work on Monday and they accomplish their work in the Saturday afternoon every week. Continually their work is going on. Every morning they start their work and return to their houses in the evening time. After their return to house only they are able to prepare their food and take the same as a routine work. Because of this reason they are unable to look after their health and also they are unable to meet the needs of their children. Hence their health become very week and most of the children become dropout. Hence we planned to provide them health awareness training programme. As the Saturday is their weekly salary day they return to their home little earlier than the other days.. this training was offered by Mrs. Sudha, Chief Trainer, Mahalir Thittam. 36 women participated in this programme. In this training self health maintenance was emphasized. Most of the women talked about their RTI (Reproductive Track infection) problem. To them medical counseling was offered. They were advised to go and check about their health in the nearby Primary Health Centre. Also they were suggested to drink a large quantity of water, particularly when they are working. As they are working under very hot sun they were asked to cover their head with the clean cloth and to wear the proper shoes. Also they were suggested to talk the oil bath atleast once in a week and to add plantain stem in their menu every week to avoid the stone formation in the water. Also they were asked to wash their hands and legs with the clean water as soon as they finish their work. If they are healthly, they can look after their children in a right manner. If they feel any skin allergy they are asked to go and check with a dermatologist. Not only they look after their health condition, but also they have to listen their children. After the parents return to their home, their children return to their home without cleaning their hands and legs therefore it was advised to concentrate on the health of their children. As the dengue fever is commonly found in Thoothukudi district. They need to advise their children to be clean and helathly. As the Dengue is spread by mosquitoes they were asked to keep their surrounding clean, All the participants understood the necessity of this training programme.
