“Local women's organizations working to prevent and end violence against women have lost staff since the earthquake, but the need for services is even greater since then—especially in rural areas" - a Haitian woman activist
The Women Thrive team has returned to DC after two busy weeks in Haiti conducting meetings and workshops with local women's groups, NGOs and the US and Haitian Governments. Among other activities, Women Thrive met with local women's organizations who work with réstaveks. An estimated two-thirds of réstaveks, or forced domestic laborers, are young girls who are often victims of violence. Check out our website for the full update on our trip.
I also wanted to let you know about a great opportunity to give the moms you love a gift that makes a difference this Mother's Day. Donate in honor of someone you love to Help Us Create a World without Violence and GlobalGiving will send a card letting her know! What's even better, GlobalGiving is matching $5 for every donation made until Mother's Day!
Thanks for your continued support. Together, we are helping create a world without violence!
