Dear Friends, Family and supporters of Serendipity,
I am happy to inform you that we have covered two wards (Yako, madobi) which are part of Madobi Local government area as part of our intervention efforts to reduce the incidence of malaria cases in madobi local government area. Currently we are at mallam mamman with a total population of less that 500 where 15 women have babies between the ages of 3 months and 10 months who are not sleeping with Insecticide Treated Nets have been identified and 7 pregnant women also have been identified not sleeping under Insecticide Treated Nets but during the coming weeks they will be supplied with these nets.
These mothers said they do not sleep with these nets because some of them say it brings heat, some find it suffocating and even after air drying the nets they complained of chemical smell. They said they prefer to use cloths to seal the doors and windows and even sleeping with mosquito coils which we told them was hazardous to their health. We had to do an extensive educative training on the advantages of sleeping with these nets and thus have been convinced to use them when we supply within the next couple of weeks.
We are striving hard to save children from malaria in madobi local government area. This has not been easy recently getting these nets wholesale and thus have to rely on retail price which has eaten deep into our budget as most of these nets are bought on retail price which goes for $15 dollars and sometimes as high as $25.
We are thus appealing to new donors to help with substantial amount so that we can reach out to many mothers so that we can save the lives of more children in Mallam Mamman ward and other wards in the local council.
Help us reach the mark of 700 children which is our new goal to end malaria cases in Madobi local government area of Kano.
