Summary
This project will reduce malnutrition in one of Southern Laos’ poorest regions, Attappeu, where 50% of children suffer severe malnutrition and stunting because of a lack of food and poor education.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
50% of children’s deaths in Laos result from malnutrition. Malnutrition causes many problems, like stunting, dropping out of school, and new mothers dying.
In Attappeu 50% of children are malnourished. 17,000 people live there and they need help to get enough food to survive. We will start programs to end food shortages altogether. We will help the poorest families, with special attention on women (including single mothers and widows), no income families and people with disabilities.
How will this project solve this problem?
We will provide a nutritious meal a day to children and give food to take home as an incentive to attend school. We will give seeds, tools and materials to farmers and provide training in effective farming techniques work-shops on nutrition.
Potential Long Term Impact
This project will help over 17,000 people to meet their own food needs as a long term solution to malnourishment: A reduction in malnutrition; A lower infant mortality rate; Less children suffering from stunting; More children attending school
Project Message
