Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our project already. We have raised $200 already and look forward to reaching our goal.
To initiate this project, NAS has been holding presentations as part of the training of trainers program. The topics included: the importance of legislation in favor of women with disabilities; the role of the UN Convention for Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD); the ways to present issues related to women and women with disabilities in the media; how to use arts and cultural programs in promotion of rights awareness; and how to approach political and media spheres when campaigning.
Presentation sessions allowed for heated discussions among the participants. Debates often arose about the need to focus disability under the women’s rights umbrella, but there was a push by many women favoring the promotion of CRPD. As a result of these discussions, the benefits of government support and general public awareness of CRPD will be the topic for future media campaigns.
In February, David Holdridge, president of Bridging the Divide (our partner organization) came to visit NAS in Egypt and viewed some of these sessions. We will continue to update our supporters of our progress and hope we can continue our efforts with your generous contributions to the development of our community.
