This project will reduce extreme poverty and hunger from the disabled, through engaging them in agriculture, as they will be employed, and at the same time creates income generation for self-reliance.
Liberia as a country emerging from a 14 years civil war, where the disabled were the major victims of the past war, are still finding it difficult to catch up with the lost opportunities. They live in abject poverty (less than $0.50/ day), and depends on street begging as their daily means of survival. According to the 1997 UNICEF assessment, about 366000 disabled persons living in the country of 3.5 million and 99% are unemployed and 98% have no access to formal education/vocational skill
The Project will endeavor to solve this problem through the use of practical approach of personal involvement, by establishing an Agricultural farm for the above targeted group as they themselves will directly involved in solving their own problems.
LICHO will set up a general cassava farm for the training of the disabled in simple farming method, and to also establish a mini Garie Production Center to produce Garie (cassava product) for the local markets and markets across the borders.
