Train and empower rural women to be peer trainers on vital issues: human rights awareness, domestic violence prevention, HIV/AIDS counseling and support, leadership training, and employable skills.
Women in rural South Africa face many hardships: from domestic violence to increased rates of HIV as a result of high rates of rape and sexual abuse. Women often head many households and must care for children and elders and earn an income. A huge burden when they have limited access to education and employment, and little control over their sexual health. This project will equip 190 women with skills and resources to live healthy lives free of violence and discrimination.
Trainings in Health (HIV/AIDs counseling, basic health/first aid, and home-based care); Human Rights Awareness (domestic violence, laws, rights); Leadership & Entrepreneurial Development (business skills, mentoring, marketing, selling products)
Women are ensured access the skills and resources they need to provide for themselves and their families, which leads to women being empowered on a broader scale for sustainable social and economic change within rural South African society.
