Is is a pleasure for Anidan Kenya Ngo to inform you that thanks to your charitable contribution and support, with the money received throught Global Giving so far ($ 4,840), we have involved 9 groups more (45 poor women) in our microcredit program from July, 2012. The remaining amount of money ($ 25,280) has been given by other private donors interested to our project. So we are happy to announce that the project has reached the goal of improving the lives of 250 poor women in Lamu.
Thank very much again for you support and collaboration,
"As a loan officer I enjoy working with the women of our microcredit project. The women are very happy and grateful to what we have done regarding the improvement of their living standards, I have one woman among the potential women groups that is a good example of what am talking about."
Her name is Mariam Wachiro Washeke, when she first visited our office, she talked of having a business idea that she wanted to put into practice but failed due to lack of capital. She wanted to start a vegetables kiosk but since she was just a house wife there is no way she could have come up with the capital. Currently as we talk she owns a vegetable kiosk which is doing very well, she is the most active member of her group as so was elected chairlady, she has expanded her business which and also started new business in another area which is being taken care off by her sister. Her kids are now in good schools and she has even taken one of her daughter to secondary school.
Her life has completely taken a new turn and All thanks and regards goes to Anidan Microcredit project for women. There are so many other testimonies like this one, anyone interested is welcomed and I will be honored to tell.
Our microcredit project started on October 2010. On December we started with 110 women where we gave out loans, In April 2011 we gave out another loan to 115 women and in July 2011 we gave to 60 women. The repayment was good, the problem came from just few groups and then we solved it.
We have a current project going on which we disbursed loan to 250 women, we also considered the women who repaid well from the previous project where we doubled of what they got from the last project. We have divided the women according to their living area into three locations so three loan officers are working with the women where they meet them every week in the place of their businesses and help and advice them on how they should do business and saves money. The repayment is done through public repayment. Considering the high percentage of population in children with malnutrition, we also offer to the women with children sanitary services thanks to the our staff of the pediatric hospital “Pablo Horstmann”.
Due to the illiteracy of Lamu women has contributed them not having any business and entrepreneurial skills. Anidan microcredit thought of helping and supports them through training and seminaries one week in every three months. The training and seminaries are under the local consultant who has an experience of 10 years under the Ministry of Kenya Red cross. The first seminary will be on 16th July 2012 under the topic of ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS: SAVINGS AND CREDIT MANAGEMENT. In addition to that we offer tea for the breakfast, lunch and evening tea for the women. Through that we hope it going to help the women improving their lives through effective business thus improving their living standard.
Due to women’s demand in our project we wish to continue giving financial services to the poorest women of the region. We already have 300 women who are interested, as a result of insufficient funds we cannot give loans to these women so through Global Giving we hope in the next months to reach the amount which it will enable us help the other women.
