This project will provide 21 local community based organizations (CBOs) with the alternative livelihood training and materials necessary to transform their own communities.
Srey Phoom, her family and her neighbors are no strangers to the crippling effects of poverty in rural Cambodia. With dignity and strength her community struggles to provide itself with basic needs on a daily basis. Rising to this challenge her and her neighbors have formed village-based community groups to organize and support one another towards transforming their own lives. Srey Phoom's is the face of new leadership- writing a new just, sustainable future for rural Cambodia.
Strengthening capacity for the growth and sustainability of twenty one community groups while providing small grant support aimed at self sufficiency and an end to the dependence on outside support.
By working to empower community groups rather than providing charitable support, this project creates not only concrete livelihood development but also new leadership working towards a Cambodia free from poverty and environmental degradation.
"We paid a lot for food and medicine, but since being involved with the group my life changed. l spend less on food and medicine. I'm really proud of myself being a leader in my group."
