They are physically challenged athletes who carry on their daily activities only because they want to be at their next training section. Participation in sports has given them the self esteem needed to face the struggles they come across. By providing the resources for these athletes to actively participate in sports we will be helping them to compete with their peers in a fair and competitive manner. Many of them have dreams of using the sport to represent their country and peers.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Currently, there is only one training facility where persons with disability can take part in sports in Cape Coast. As a result, most of the athletes travel from far to be able to participate. These athletes are constraint financially and coming to practice even once a week is a financial burden. The lack of standard training equipment for persons with disabilities in the various disciplines is lacking, causing them to underperform against superior equipment at games and tournaments.

How will this project solve this problem?

This project will solve the problem by putting in place transportation modalities to help the athletes to and from practices and tournaments. Standardize training equipment will be made available for them to develop their athleticism. A comprehensive training routine will be establish incorporating adult literacy and small scale business module for the participants of the program which will help in enabling them to become self reliant and sufficient.

Potential Long Term Impact

The long-term effects is not only getting the athletes to be physically and mentally strong for competitions, but also in tackling poverty among the group. The athletes will be able to attend national selection camp and hopefully land a spot on the national paralympic team. These athletes will also be empower so that they will be able to meet their financial obligation to their sport and family. To make this effective and sustainable, 30 athletes, both males and females, are participating.
