Summary

This project will provide 50 of Vietnam's most disadvantaged youth, including from extremely low-income families and victims of human trafficking or domestic violence with free vocational training to build self-esteem and sought-after job skills. REACH offers courses in 9 fields of study, including Web & Graphic Design and Sales & Marketing at 5 centres nation-wide. Students also receive life skills and English training, plus job support to achieve an 80% employment success rate within 6 months

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

50% of Vietnam's unemployed are under the age of 25. Moreover, 1.5 million more youth are expected to enter the labour market each year for the foreseeable future, further exacerbating the problem. For many, lack of access to training is to blame: only 15% of Vietnamese youth have specialised skills. Left unsupported, disadvantaged youth, such as victims of trafficking or domestic abuse, will have little opportunity for stable employment, and upward social and economic mobility.

How will this project solve this problem?

REACH's intensive training programs provide students with highly employable skills. Our demand-driven curriculum is designed to target the technical skills, hands-on experience, life skills, and conversational English ability needed to obtain entry-level jobs in their chosen field. Through our network of business partners we help graduates secure employment and continue our support for 6 months. That's why 80% of our graduates find stable jobs at competitive salaries in 6 months, and keep them.

Potential Long Term Impact

With REACH's 80% job placement track record, we know that these disadvantaged young people will be more financially secure. Our graduates are able to build the skill set and confidence necessary to pull themselves out of poverty, as well as contribute to the health and well-being of their families. The fact that over 50% of REACH graduates receive promotions or raises in their first year of employment demonstrates their training's effectiveness, and that these life change are sustainable.
