NOWPDP places people with disabilities into full-time jobs, matched to their skills, to provide increased independence and dignity. This project will place 120 people into jobs across 12 months. From October 2010 - March 2011, we placed 30 of the planned 60 people with disabilities. We are aiming to place at least another 60 over the next 6 months!
People with disabilities in Pakistan face significant difficulties in gaining economic and social independence, with barriers in place by society, educational institutions and businesses. People with disabilities, whether physical, hearing, visual or mental, are not an active stakeholder in the business world, despite the presence of a 2% employment quota.
NOWPDP will find jobs appropriate to the skills and capabilities of 120 graduates of special education schools across Karachi, Pakistan. This will result in the graduates gaining employment where they would otherwise not.
The employment of people with disabilities has a significant impact on both them, their families and greater society, including: - increased economic independence - increased self-confidence and dignity - increased social acceptance of disability
