Merlin has created an Emergency Response Fund - MERF for short. The Fund is an instant source of 'start up' money so that our teams can respond immediately. We are medical experts on the front line. Our teams need to have prepared medicines and supplies ready to use, for where ever and whenever there is an emergency. Please support Merlin and help us make sure we are always ready for action.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Over 2.6 billion people have been affected by natural disasters in the past 10 years, 95% of them in developing countries. Every year, natural disasters destroy homes and claim thousands of lives. With each emergency, health needs multiply at exactly the time when medical services collapse. The quicker MERF teams respond, the more lives we can save. If we are able to access funds in the first 24 hours our medical can be transported to the front line immediately.
How will this project solve this problem?
Making sure Merlin is prepared, enables our teams to: * React immediately: sending specialist medical teams to the heart of the crisis instantly. * Respond to those emergencies that you don't read about in the media or see on TV. * Respond repeatedly: a stock of emergency supplies, means that our teams can respond to multiple emergencies at the same time.
Potential Long Term Impact
There are lots of emergencies, across the world that don't make headlines. Disease outbreaks, earthquakes, floods, each one can lead to a humanitarian crisis which wreck families & communities. Merlin does not just respond to the emergencies that make the news, we respond to emergency situations that you never even hear about. Merlin is there to heal the wounded, cure the sick & most importantly, save lives. No one knows where or when the next emergency will be. But Merlin will be there.
