This project supports our India efforts, in which we strive to give tiny infants (pre-term and low birth weight) an equal chance for a healthy life by providing them with much needed thermal support. Unlike traditional incubators that cost up to $20,000, the Embrace Infant Warmer costs 1% of this price. The device is innovative and can work with or without electricity, is portable, safe and intuitive to use.
Every year, 20 million premature and low-birth-weight babies are born; 4 million of them die, and those that survive often grow up to have low IQ, diabetes, and heart disease. 1.2 million of these deaths occur in India alone. These problems could be avoided by providing these babies with warmth. However, traditional incubators can cost up to $20,000 and require electricity, while in-home remedies such as wrapping hot water bottles around babies or placing them under light bulbs are unsafe.
The Embrace Infant Warmer is a unique solution. The product is a simple and an extremely cost-effective innovative technology that can work with or without electricity, and provides heat to an infant at a constant temperature, a key condition needed for survival.
Over the next 3 years, Embrace aims to impact the lives of over 50,000 babies by providing their mothers with a unique and simple life-saving solution for their tiny babies.
Unfortunately my story is typical here, I have endured the death of all three of my children, all within months of being born. Better healthcare is all I want. I want to be able to save my babies.
