The project will implement off-grid solar power and micro-hydro systems to provide electricity to 20 communities in the Andean highlands of Peru.
In Peru, 25% of the total population and approximately 70% of the rural and isolated areas lack electricity. Due to the rough terrain, the most cost-efficient and environmentally friendly systems for remote areas are off-grid, community-based energy options. However, very few have been installed. This project will provide benefits of clean, renewable energy to over 5,000 individuals in the Andean highlands of the District of Chirinos, Department of Cajamarca, Peru.
This project will provide clean and renewable electricity to 4 health clinics, 95 homes, 20 schools, and 11 community buildings through use of photovoltaic cells and micro-hydropower.
Community members will help install, manage, and eventually take ownership of the renewable energy systems that provide electricity to their own homes, schools and health clinics. 20 villages and more than 5,000 people will benefit.
