Because of the generosity of donors, this Spring, the Healthcare Residents at Cedar Village Retirement Community in Mason, Ohio, were provided with a new program that truly adds to their overall life enrichment. Beginning in March, a massage therapist and manicurist were added to the calendar on a monthly basis to help soothe residents’ minds and bodies. As one resident stated, “I have not felt so good and energetic in such a long time. This reminds me of going to the beauty parlor.” These services are provided to all healthcare residents even those in the Dementia unit. To see how a gentle massage makes those living with dementia become so alert is remarkable.
With all the wet weather, music and entertainment have brightened the spirit of all residents at Cedar Village. Through hard work and dedication, the Cedar Village Choir worked with the choirs from the Seasons Retirement Community and Sharonville Senior Center, and hosted a Singing Extravaganza. Conducted by Cedar Village’s Music Therapist, Jude, the concert brought smiles to many faces and even a standing ovation.
Funds continue to help sponsor exercise classes, flower arranging, and jewelry-making classes. After a bit of muscle strengthening, residents go on to create lovely arrangements and beautiful jewelry.
Within a retirement community it is vital to provide engagement and stimulation for mind, body and spirit.
