With the University of Cincinnati back in session, we are greatful to once again have students from the College Conservatory of Music (CCM) entertain the residents of Cedar Village, in Mason, Ohio with musical theater. On Thursday, November 4th, "Joe and Friends" came back for their second season with a dynamic array of show tunes from There's No Business Like Show Business" to "The Impossible Dream." One resident Rose, who is blind said, "This was the most amazing experience. I felt like I was at a show on Broadway." When the show was over and the performers bowed, Rose lead the standing ovation and a "Bravo."

August 2010 Update

Since June, the residents have had some amazing programs not only to be entertained, but also to stimulate their minds and learning opportunities. In July, the Cincinnati Zoo brought a fascinating educational. From the porcupine to the alligator, residents were able to see the animals up close and were able to engage in quite a wonderful question and answer session with the zookeepers. As has been the tradition, we had our annual summer outing to the Cincinnati Opera. This year, the residents from the Oak View and Fountain View Apartments went to see La Boheme. As one resident stated, "I am so blessed to live at Cedar Village. We get to go, do, and see so many diverse things." Funds continue to help sponsor exercise classes including Tai Chi and jewelry-making classes where our residents enjoy making bracelets and necklaces for themselves and their family members. Within a retirement community it is vital to provide engagement and stimulation for mind, body and spirit.

June 2010 Update

Cedar Village's goal is to always enrich lives of our elders, the residents living at Cedar Village through special programming to meet their needs. Residents recently had the opportunity to be entertained by a group from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM) students from the Music Theater Department. One comment we received was, "the songs brought back so many wonderful memories of attending the theater in New York City." Additionally, our residents had the wonderful experience of hearing local author, Jane Murray Heimlich, as she began her book tour to promote "Out of Step." This summer, we will host our 3rd Annual Vintage Car Show where residents have the opportunity to go for a ride in old cars from a Model T Ford to a classic Rolls Royce. Excitement is building and one of our male residents is counting down the days until he can go for a ride in a car like the one he used to drive. Funds helped sponsor exercise classes including Tai Chi and jewelry-making classes where our residents enjoy making bracelets and necklaces for themselves and their family members. Within a retirement community it is vital to provide engagement and stimulation for mind, body and spirit.

Programming

The goal of enriching lives of elders is being met every day with special educational, informational and entertainment programs. Residents recently had the opportunity to attend the Cincinnati Pops and their comments included "This is the best concert I have ever seen" and "This music just warmed my soul." Funds helped bring in special education for Martin Luther King day, to sponsor a performance of the Bell Choir and to make an outing to a special King Tut exhibit in Indianapolis a reality. Within a retirement community it is vital to provide engagement and stimulation for mind, body and spirit.
