CI will provide 180 inner city children with a mentor-based shopping trip. Each child receives school supplies, two school outfits, and shoes for a successful year of learning and positive change.
Inner city school children are one of the most at-risk student groups in our school system. They are left vulnerable to negative influences and are at risk of falling behind in school. They lack the mentors, supplies, clothing, and self-esteem necessary to be active learners, capable of overcoming adversity to achieve personal success.
This project pairs 180 vulnerable students with mentors who will help them shop for and purchase two new school outfits and shoes. Each child also leaves with a backpack filled with school supplies.
This project will provide 180 students with the self-esteem needed to become active learners and participants in their schools and communities. These students will feel empowered about school, hunger for learning, and begin to strive for success.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
