Summary
Five Peace Film Festivals will be held at campuses around Indonesia in partnership with local organisations that will determine the local elements to the festival.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The five locations chosen for the film festivals are towns that have experienced conflicts or are potential spots for conflicts. Through the festivals CG will be targeting youth, a group who are open to new thoughts and ideas, but also prone to reacting quickly and passionately to an issue. Through this highly entertaining yet educational event students will be encouraged to discuss and dialogue conflict issues and learn more about conflict transformation methods.
How will this project solve this problem?
The festival will screen at least 10 films from worldwide elected by CG Indonesia for their peace message. There will also be a discussion related to this topic with a local slant to it. Additional activities by local partners will be encouraged.
Potential Long Term Impact
At least 2500 people will watch films and discuss the messages amongst each other etc. At least 500 people will attend discussions evolving from the festivals. Overall, films will generate general reflection on conflict and its consequences.
Project Message
“This is a great event. We rarely have the opportunity to see films that have real messages and learn about different styles of films. It is a very direct way to encourage us to think about peace.”
- Ichwan Persada, Dir, Freehand Communications, partner of festival
