Happy ThanksGiving from Haiti!

Back in School - Thanks to you! (ALM Photography)
Back in School - Thanks to you! (ALM Photography)

Just over a month has gone by since the extraordinary success of Global Giving’s match funding day on October 19th when you donated $1056 in just one day. With your generosity, you’ve given students like Christopher the chance to get an education and learn the skills he needs to build a better life.

As Americans across the country start to plan their ThanksGiving celebrations, we hope you’ll take a little extra joy in knowing that, this ThanksGiving, you’ve given 50 children in Haiti a reason to be thankful.

Thank you so much for all you’ve already done to Give the Gift of Education this holiday season, and we hope you’ll continue your inspiring support of these driven students this holiday season by giving a gift to support English students.

You can give a gift in someone’s name right on the project page under the donate button. The project which receives the most gifts on GlobalGiving will be eligible to receive extra funding!

If you can’t give a gift, you can still help bring hope for the Holidays by spreading the word to friends and family about how easy it is to change lives in Haiti.

One last time, thanks so much for all you’ve given, and a very Happy ThanksGiving!

Matching Success on October 19th!

First of all, thank you so much to each and every person who gave on October 19th! Together, your donations totaled $1056 – that’s enough to put four children through school for the year raised in just one day! Amazing!

The combination of your generosity, the extraordinary fundraising efforts of the Horwitz family, and a grant from the Evan Cornish Foundation mean that we have sufficient funding to keep 50 children in school until the middle of next year. For these children, more than half of whom are orphans, the education you’re providing will open doors to a future free of poverty and despair.

Thank you so much for giving these children the opportunity to build a better tomorrow. Together, we know that we can reach our goal of providing a primary school education for 100 children over the next five years.

Moving forward, we’re extremely excited to announce that supporting scholarships in Haiti has just gotten a little easier. Thanks to GlobalGiving, it’s now possible do donate $10 to a Haitian child’s education simply by sending a text message!

Just text “Give 7101” to 80088 and reply with a “yes” to the confirmation text you’ll receive.  Text Giving is a great, hassle free way to give yourself, and makes it easy to encourage friends and family to give.

Classroom Success!

Four young scholarship recipients
Four young scholarship recipients

We are beyond excited to announce that thanks to the extraordinary fundraising by EDV volunteers in Germany, we have secured funding hand to complete all planned classroom construction in Haiti!

That planned classroom construction includes five permanent classrooms at Institution Classique and seven transitional classrooms at College Adonai.

We’d like to thank each and every one of you for donating on this page to make classroom construction possible.Your donations have allowed us to provide safe classroom space for more than 300 children who would otherwise not attend school or study under tarps.

Moving forward, we’ll be focusing this page exclusively on supporting our scholarship programme. The goal of this programme is simple: provide scholarships for 100 children so that they can complete primary school.

Completing primary school will help these vulnerable children overcome the cycle of poverty which traps so many in Haiti, opening a door to a brighter tomorrow.

One last time, thanks so much for your donation. We hope you’ll continue to support education in Haiti by sharing this page with friends and family.

New Classrooms for a New Year

A chid who will go to school in an EDV classroom
A chid who will go to school in an EDV classroom

Hello all,

We hope this update finds you well?

We can’t believe how quickly the summer has gone by! In just a few short weeks, the school year will be upon us. In preparation, we’re working hard to get classrooms ready for students and secure funding for much needed scholarships.

Since our last update, we’ve build six new transitional classrooms for more than 100 students. We’ve also planned the construction of five new permanent classrooms – that construction will start as soon as we can secure final funding. With your help, these new classrooms will be ready for the start of school in September.

None of this construction would be possible without your contribution, and we hope we can count on your continued support as we prepare for the upcoming school year. Until August 17th, it’s easier than ever to support education in Haiti. In fact, it’s as easy as logging into Facebook.

One of our photos has been selected as a finalist in Global Giving’s photo contest. The winning photo will be the one which receives the most votes on Facebook and will receive $1,000, so please vote today! Here’s how:

  1. Login to Facebook and then "Like" the GlobalGiving page. You can find that page here.
  2. "Like" our photo which you can find here
  3. Finally, tell all your friends on Facebook how easy it is to help a great charity win $1,000! Make sure they understand that to vote, they must first "Like" the GlobalGiving page or their votes won't count.

If you’re not on Facebook, you can still share this information with friends and family or just make a donation.  Thank you so much for all you’ve already done to promote education in Haiti, and our warmest regards.

A big thanks to Dorota Oleksiewicz and Lillian Chuo for the use of these photos!

68 more Children in School - Thanks to you!

Never too young for learning!
Never too young for learning!

We’re delighted to announce that, thanks to you support, we’ve added an additional 68 children to our scholarship programme. These children will attend the school we recently renovated at the Foyer d’Orelph Orphanage.

These kids are now attending school in safe, dry classrooms which your donations and the work of our volunteers built. For the first time since the earthquake, these kids have a real school to attend – and it’s all thanks to you.

We have already secured funding for two full months of school for all 68 children, and, with your help, we looking forward to seeing these children through many more months of school.

On June 15th, securing that funding will be a little bit easier. Global Giving will be matching all donations of up to $1,000 by 30%, and the organsiation which raises the most will win an extra bonus. We hope you’ll continue supporting these kids by giving what you can on June 15th and spreading the word.

One last time, thanks so much for generously supporting education for the children of Port au Prince.
