Grapevine Community School, a youth project focused on providing Quality Education to needy children in sewage/matopeni slums of Nairobi. The project has provided an opportunity for youths to engage in economic activities. It has also created an opportunity for volunteers to help reduce unemployment, poverty and crime. The youths have reason to smile while the needy children now have hope for bright future through education. Knowledge is the only way towards wealth creation and poverty reduction.
Most children in sewage/matopeni slums are either orphans, neglected, from single/teenage parents or extremely poor families/ integrated IDPS.Unemployment, high standards of living makes it very hard for these children to go to school. They take care of their siblings as parents go out to look for food, some loiter in streets begging for food, boys involve in child labor, theft, girls engage in sex for food and other favors. To ensure a safe society free of crime we need to reduce poverty. This way
Providing a good learning environment and support will give hope and motivation to the despondent and hopeless children and unemployed youths in the community. This will reduce street children menace and youth idleness. This will in turn reduce crime, prostitution, child labor and poverty. An education community is an empowered community. Education is the only way out of poverty-towards a prosperous nation and reducing of the gap between the rich and the poor. No poverty- minimum or No Crime.
The project will continue supporting needy children, providing opportunities for idle youths. This will lead to knowledgeable and informed society. This will in turn lead to reduced crime and other social vices. The project will also serve as a resource centre and a model to be emulated by other to help the community. It will also challenge other youths to use their talents to create wealth while solving societal problems. From job seekers to job creators. We will have a safe haven for investment
