Dear friends on GlobalGiving,

We take this wonderful opportunity to sincerely thank you for your continued support in this project (Educating for 50 poor rural children in India). Your kindness and generosity has enabled to reach out to the students who are in need of our help. We have made remarkable strides in improving the educational status of the students in our project area.

Your contribution to our project through GlobalGiving has a huge impact on the educational support for the rural children of our locality at large. We see this as a new beginning and believe more progress is possible which upshots a future full of promise and hope.

In the past few years we have focused on improving the lives of children in our community, especially in providing educational opportunities and reducing the rising drop outs.

Our quarterly newsletter and monthly emails will keep you updated of our activities.

Thanking you.

J.Raju,

Secretary, SPPD

Selvaraj’s father is a tractor driver. With the few earnings he had he used to take care of the family. On 13th June 2004, he met with a severe accident on his way to purchase wheat and by the time they could reach the Govt. Hospital at Kulithalai he expired. After his demise Selvaraj’s mother had to take up the entire responsibility of managing the family. Though they had relations, none of them supported his family. Selvaraj’s grandparents were too old to go for any job. They live in a hut house. His mother’s income was sufficient only to feed the entire family. She was unable to get her children the basic materials required for school. Three meals a day was uncertain for them. Only during festive seasons, they were given non-vegetarian food. To provide this also she had to borrow from her neighbours. They used to get new clothes only during festive season and this was not assured always.

Student’s opinion:- I’m very happy and excited to go to school. The determination of scoring good marks in my exams and study well has deep rooted in my mind. All my educational materials as well as toiletry material I receive with the help of SPPD. Before my enrolment in SPPD, I never used to get all these items in my house because we were in a very poor situation. I used to wear torn uniform and go to school. My mother’s earnings was enough only to feed us. But now all my requirements are fulfilled and I believe that I will reach great success in my life.
