We provide education (+ food, uniforms & health checks) to 2 groups of children in India: kids under the age of 6 who don't get sent to school & those over 14 who have dropped out of school for family reasons. Our methods allow them to integrate back into government schools that we have 'adopted'. This project will fund 2 more learning centers to deliver our unique curriculum, and most importantly, run awareness programs to educate families on the value of a formal education for their children
Thousands of children in India do not receive any education or are forced to drop out to care for family, to work or to get married. 58% drop out at primary level and 98% drop out before university. Without an education, they live a life of poverty and abuse. There are 2 big problems: Firstly, many families don't believe their children need education and we must make them aware of why learning is important. Secondly, many rural or slum government schools are badly run and lacking in resources.
We run learning centres that give kids a place to learn, a reason to learn, materials to learn, trained teachers, mentors to empower and a tailored curriculum. We educate parents on the value of learning, creating awareness programs that encourage rural & slum families to send their children to school. We integrate children back into mainstream education by 'adopting' schools and raising standards, ensuring they provide necessities e.g. hot meal, hygiene etc as well as education.
Our programs empower children & give them tools & knowledge to want professional lives & meaningful careers. We have run awareness workshops with 8000 people in urban slums & rural India. This has resulted in 2000 children being educated. We monitor our children and have seen that when children are educated, they provide for their families and bring numerous people out of poverty. By 2015 we want to reach 20,000 people, create 10 learning centres, create new curriculums and educate 8000 kids.
