This project will allow Madonna Mission to provide educational support to 100 refugee women and children in Chicago.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
This year the U.S. State Department will welcome 70,000 refugees, fleeing war and violence, as permanent residents. About 80% of the world's refugees are women and children who have routinely been denied the opportunity for education. Madonna Mission serves these women and children by providing a place of welcome, hope, and education.
How will this project solve this problem?
Madonna Mission harnesses the incredible potential of refugee women and children through education. English language classes help women and their families become fluent enough to navigate the city, join the workforce and eventually achieve self-sufficiency. The after school tutoring program provides refugee children an opportunity to develop academic and literacy skills. Our Summer Camp for Refugee Girls, encourages academic and social growth for newly arrived refugee girls.
Potential Long Term Impact
Madonna Mission provides concrete assistance to 100 refugee women and children through English classes, after school tutoring, and summer camp. Education will help refugee families achieve their goals in the United States. Madonna Mission helps create productive, educated and engaged new Americans.
