Grapevine community school is a youth project established to provide quality education to poor children in sewage slums Nairobi. The group has rented premises from where they teach the children. This project will help to educate poor, vulnerable children in Sewage-Matopeni slum.
Most children are from extremely poor, single families or orphans. If these children don't go to school they loiter in the streets and engage in pick pocketing. They are potential criminals. Girls will graduate to prostitutes and boys to robbers. The project has focused on providing high quality- low cost education to the children and engaging the youth in productive legal activity to ensure security now and in future. The project will benefit the poor children, youth and entire community.
We operate a school that serves children from 3-16 years. Most children lack materials, good clothes and good meals and loiter in the streets. Providing it with learning materials, uniforms, quality food and paying their fees will attract and retain them in school. The project will reduce youth engagement in drug abuse and other forms of crime by keeping the busy. Parents who retain their children at home or change them schools to avoid paying fees will happy. Their hope will be rekindled.
The project will provide quality education to 100 vulnerable children and many more others who will be joining us. We project our population of pupils to grow to over 300 by the end of 2012.Will also provide employment opportunities for 10 youths as teachers by the end of 2012 and other community members as subordinate staff. This will reduce poverty and crime drastically now and in the future. Crime can only be eliminated by eradicating poverty and poverty can only be eliminated by Education.
