If a picture is worth a thousand words...

Art Studio
Art Studio's Tree of Life Activity

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what does a video show?

It's been a busy school year for our Art Studio youth. As we near the end of school year our students are reflecting on all they've learned this year and selecting their best and favorite works to showcase at the culminating showcase during Miami's "Second Saturday" Art Walk on June 8th.

We could tell you how amazing our students experience has been, but we'd rather have our students work speak for themselves. Recent achievements include;

Miami Edison High School Art Club students, in collaboration with Art Studio Miami, become finalists for the second year in a row in the national "If I Had a Trillion Dollars" Film Contest.

See their winning, student-directed, created and edited film here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKvCkYudMVI

Art Studio's "Vision Voices" Students at Miami Edison Middle School create a Non-Violence Communications Video showing their peers there are more productive ways to resolve conflict. (Video to be posted soon - check back on our Videos page soon: http://www.artstudiomiami.org/?page_id=1348 )

Art Studio's "Creative Core" Students at Jesse J. Elementary School are working on a "Elements" muralto showcase their studies of Earth, Air, and Water and the animals that inhabit them.

Art Studio's "Tree of Life" activity continues to be a hit at community events including a visit from Geoffrey Canada of Harlem's Children's Zone, and MCI's KaBoom Build Day in Liberty City.

For those of you in the area, be sure to stop by and see our student's work in person at the June 8th culminating showcase (details coming soon).

Summer is just around the corner, and Art Studio has a fun-packed, educational program prepared for students including outdoor experiences, beach clean-ups, field trips, found art projects, guest speakers and more. Summer is a high risk time for students, and prevention programs like ours are more needed then ever. Art Studio is also proud to be partnering with the Miami Dade County Food Program to be a meal site for youth in the community (whether they are enrolled in our program or not) to ensure no child goes hungry while school is out.

Please consider making a contribution to support summer opportunities for youth, and spread the word about why Art Studio is important to you.

Extra bonus: Celebrate Your Mother with a Contribution this Mother's Day and help your funds go further to empower young minds. From now until May 12th, GlobalGiving is matching every donation made as a gift $5. Donors can make a donation to your project as a gift by selecting the third giving option, “gift or in honor of,” under the orange donate button on the project page. GlobalGiving will send the gift recipient an email, snail mail, or print-at-home card.

As always, Art Studio welcomes Guest Speakers, volunteers, and in-kind donations. It's also a great way to see our programs in action and experie- contact us at info@artstudiomiami.org to get involved today.

With gratitude,

Soralee

Thank you for Empowering Young Minds in 2012

Thank You from one of our school site programs!
Thank You from one of our school site programs!

As we kick off another year of creative holistic arts programs for youth and families in need, we would like to take a moment to thank you again for inspiring, educating, and empowering our youth in 2012.

With your help, we were able to serve over 200 youth through school site programs, field trips, community workshops, summer programs and outreach activity days. Among the highlights this year, students went to Washington, D.C. to learn leadership skills, screen their film, and explore the nations capital; celebrated and met Miami Heat champions at an Art Basel showcase of their work; and participated in an International Coastal Day Cleanup, all thanks to the support of dedicated sponsors, volunteers, and donors like you. To see a fuller review of 2012, please see our end of year e-newsletter at http://bit.ly/ASM2012Review (case sensitive).

We hope you will continue to be involved into 2013. Each year, we watch our youth take tremendous strides on the journey from troubled youth - undernourished physically, mentally and emotionally - to successful and confident individuals who understand their potential for creating positive change in themselves, their families and communities, and the world at large. We invite you to see the change for yourselves by contacting us to schedule a visit to Our Art Studio and/or become involved as a volunteer.

Wishing you blessings in 2013!

With gratitude,

Educate, Empower & Heal: Art Studio Project Update

Dear Friend of Art Studio,

As we near the end of the school year and begin to prepare for summer programs, our Art Studio would like to take a moment to update you on how your support continues to educate, empower and heal at-risk youth in the Little Haiti community of Miami, FL.

Art Studio's in-school and community location programs have continued to empower youth in need with creative thinking and career preparedness skills; introducing healthy means of self-expression, promoting self-confidence, and guiding youth on a path towards academic, personal, and career success.

Our students at Miami Edison High Art Club recently had the opportunity to attend a national film festival and conference in Washington, D.C. to celebrate their success as finalists in the 'If I Had a Trillion Dollars' film contest and learn more about Media, Leadership and Advocacy. Read more about the project here

For our friends living in or visiting the Miami area, you are invited to join Art Studio and our partners, L-M-N-T Gallery and Vision Launch.org, on Thursday, May 17th from 7pm - 9pm at L-M-N-T gallery (55 NW 36th St. Miami, FL 33127) for an inspirational event exploring the power of transforming a vision into reality.

In addition to live performances, visual art and a panel of visioneers, the even will highlight the results of a student workshop exploring the personal visions of Little Haiti youth. A portion of the nights proceeds will benefit Art Studio to continue empowering youth to pursue their dreams.

Thank You for your continued support of Hope in Action! Stay tuned for our upcoming end-of-year newsletter with detailed updates and photos from the field, and visit our Facebook Page and Website for more.

With Gratitude,

Our Art Studio Team
